Ok, I am back and I know you guys have been dying to hear what my next weird intake was after losing my access to starch. Well after volunteering to clean the chalk board in elementary school, I clapped the erasers together. The lovely aroma of chalk filled the air and whispered in my ear ” taste me”, and I did. It was not as tasting as the laundry starch but it was similar and temporarily filled my void.

Every time the teacher asked for a helper to erase the chalkboard I was delighted to help.

As the years passed, my access to the laundry starch in the window became slim.   I could hardly wait til I was old enough to go to store and buy my own box. I wondered if they will still be selling it in the store.  I often heard older adults say that they stop making it because so many people were eating it and becoming sick.  In the meanwhile, I search for a substitute.  Guess what is was?

Okay, now where did I leave off.  Before the taste of starch there was dirt. Making red clay mud pies and eating dirt was part of just about every kids childhood. But the thing is that I didn’t crave  mud pies or dirt.  I occasionally liked to kick up a lot of dirt til it became very dusty. Then I would  run through the cloud of dust just so  that I could get that dusty taste in my mouth.  Other than that, I didn’t eat dirt that often.

So I guess you might be wondering why a 6-year-old is eating starch. It was out of curiosity, just wanted to see how it taste. I notice a relative eating it and I wanted to try some. It was the ARGO brand laundry starch in the dark red box. As I remember, it looked like little pieces of white rocks but very soft like marshmallows. When no one was looking I located the hidden box in the window seal of the relative home that I frequently visited. I poured some in my hand and quickly put it into my mouth before anyone noticed. It was the beginning of my obsession.

Eating corn starch might sound horrible to some, but if you had a choice of eating a spoon of cornstarch or a spoon full of cooked bugs which would you choose?

Hello and Welcome to A Diary of A Corn Starch Addiction.   I invite you to follow me as I take you back to when it all began, yes the first taste of the white powder that keeps you coming back for more.
